How to be Organized at a Meet

It is important to be organized at a swim meet.  Parents and swimmers should know how to read a heat sheet and list events on the swimmer's arm.

1. Find each of the swimmer's events in the heat sheet.  The bold print will indicate a new event # and list the age group and stroke.

2. Locate your child's name under that event and highlight it.  Note in which heat and lane the swimmer's name appears.

In the examples above, the swimmer is in Event #99 Girls 10 & Under 50 Yard Breaststroke.  She will swim in Heat 9 in Lane 3.

3. Highlight each event for the swimmer on the heat sheet.  In a dual meet, the swimmer is eligible to swim up to 4 individual events and 2 relays.  At CHAMPS, the swimmer is eligible for 3 individual events and 2 relays.

Please understand that the coaching staff will place swimmers in events and relays that they feel appropriate.  Eligibility does not guarantee entry in an event or relay.

4. Once you have all of the swimmer's events/heats/lane #s  write that information in Sharpie on the swimmer's forearm.  **It is important to know that sunscreen and bug spray will remove Sharpie from skin.**
